Named one of the most important players in dance music, Derrick Carter has been in the house music scene since the late ’80s. He began DJ’ing when he was 9 years old, spinning records at family gatherings in the western suburbs of Chicago. As Carter grew up, he worked at dance music speciality stores and played local DJ gigs. His debut single “Love Me Right” was released in 1987, and a few years later he released multiple singles and an album as Sound Patrol. Several mix albums and two labels later, Derrick Carter has become a legend by incorporating house with old-school disco, soul, jazz and whatever else catches his ear.
Just this past weekend, Derrick Carter played a set at Tomorrowland, an electronic music festival in Belgium. Check out a highlight of his performance at Tomorrowland 2012 below!
Derrick Carter will be performing with Queens of Noise at The Social this Friday, July 25th. Ticket prices range from $15 to $25. Be sure to get your tickets here for the show!
