Adam Ant, formally known as the front man of Adam and the Ants, is known for his eclectic style and genre defiant music. He was a pioneer in the 80s with his Kings of the Wild Frontier album and has remained relevant through several different mediums and stunts ever since.
While he got his start with the band, Bazooka Joe, and then a residency with Adam and the Ants at the Marquee club in London, he took his career to new heights in 1980 with singles, “Kings of the Wild Frontier” and “Antmusic,” which both hit number 2 on the UK chart. “Antmania” swept the UK and after winning the Brit Award for Best British Album, Adam Ant became one of the most publicized faces in Britain.
He reached stardom in the U.S. by being the first VJ (video jockey) on MTV at a time when videos were the most popular way to promote music. Adam’s charismatic performances in some of the most lavish visuals of the period paved the way for his acting career. His first solo album, Friend or Foe, also continued his success in the USA, delivering 3 top twenty hits on the Billboard Top 100.
To paint a better picture of how Adam’s charisma created such a large following and how he’s been able to sustain such a long career as a performer, Foundation Presents’ graphic designer, Erin Nolan, explained her love for Adam Ant. “I love the cheeky humor Adam Ant has always been able to pull off in his videos and his character persona. He always seemed to be well aware of the hype surrounding it and he seemed to have fun with it,” she said. When asked why people should see Adam live, Nolan responded, “I think people should see Adam Ant because: #1. He’s STILL HOT. Even in his 60s, He’s still got it. #2. He has great songs, always has. He puts on a great show, he’s very engaged with the crowd. #3. Did I mention He’s still super HOT?”
In 2016, Adam celebrated the 35th anniversary of his landmark Kings of the Wild Frontier album with a reissued version of the album as a boxset on Sony Legacy UK followed by tours in the UK and North America where he played sold-out shows to more than 50,000 fans. Recently, in 2017, Adam embarked on “ANTHEMS – The Singles Tour” in the UK and USA to play a collection of his best singles – from classic hits to B sides and rarities, after touring in Australia and New Zealand.
Adam Ant is bringing his charisma to The Beacham stage February 3, 2018. Tickets are $30 general admission advance and doors are at 6pm.
