A Tribe Called Red

Cancel your plans—or make some—and head downtown to The Social this Thursday night. A Tribe Called Red, the celebrated DJ group out of Ottawa, is about to throw an indigenous-inspired dance party you won’t want to miss. Mix-men DJ NDN, Bear Witness, and 2oolman spotlight the music of First Nations while dropping beats that combine the best of hip hop, EDM, and reggae. One listen to “Electric Pow Wow Drum,” the pulsating first single off their self-titled debut, and you’ll be hooked. We Are the Halluci Nation, the trio’s latest project, is not only an electric love letter to all things native and natural but an invitation to join them in building a revolutionary future, free of post-colonial impositions. Featuring the resolute vocals of rapper Yasiin Bey, a.k.a. Mos Def, “R.E.D.” is an anthem of the disenfranchised, a drum-beaten battle cry against commercialized ignorance. Join the tribe starting at 7 PM this Thursday, March 9th 2017 at the Social. Bring your best dance moves and get ready to swap protest stories, but, please, leave the faux headdresses at home.
